    Background

The Save Our Ferries Advocacy Group was formed by the BC Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union to fight back against the Coastal Ferry Act (CFA). Since 2004, the group has worked in conjunction with community groups, elected officials, business organizations, federal and provincial government representatives to inform and educate on the impact the Act has and will continue to have on our marine highways, coastal communities, and the economy. The purpose of this campaign is to inform the public at large about threats flowing from the CFA to the public ferry system and to our ferry dependent communities. Through informing and lobbying of the public and elected officials, our objective is to assist in ensure the optimal and safe operation of BC’s marine highway today, and in future. The SOF campaign remains committed to ensuring British Columbia’s marine highway, accountable and responsible to the taxpayers and ferry users of BC.

    Today

In March of 2011, Save Our Ferries was made an independent entity, separate from the BC Ferry and Marine Workers’ Union and is now under the direction of British Columbia Coastal Transportation Society.
